Big Sur Knitting Camps 2011

The camp area is in a meadow at 2300 feet, in upper Mill Creek, located in the south part of Big Sur.  This remote location has a view of the entire Mill Creek watershed, and the mountains to the north as far as Cone Peak and beyond, as well as a sweeping view of Lucia Bay.

This is a remote area, and on the first day of camp sessions you will be met for a caravan into the property to be sure that everyone gets together.  However, some people just go ahead and drive in using the map provided.  Suit yourself!

A flushing toilet is conveniently located very near to the camp area, and a complete working kitchen is only steps away from the large fire pits.  Horseshoe pits and even beanbag targets are handy, with a volley ball net in the nearby field.

The forest is filled with birds and the gorgeous display of wildflowers for which Big Sur is so well known.  The continuous variations of the seasons give the location an ever-changing character.

The remote location does not have cell phone reception.  The nearby ranch house does have a telephone and satellite internet, and also AC power which can be brought up to the campsite for use in powering personal medical devices.

The first day's food is composed of a potluck lunch and dinner, giving us all a chance to share and get to know one another, as well as setting up camp in an easy atmosphere.   In the morning a continental breakfast is provided, and then later in the day a barbecue meal with vegetarian options.  A breakfast is also served on the second morning of camp.  Take your time, and enjoy yourself…

We serve up some good chow, and are happy to do it!

Down the hill is a large pond, perfect for swimming and relaxing, with your float or in the little boat, or just laying on the bank dozing….

In the other direction, the redwoods extend down to the creek, and a loop trail for hiking takes you through some spectacular old growth trees, where you can experience the silence and wonderful aroma of this secluded forest.
